Yesterday was a great day at Yelwa club Bukuru as the great people of the Apc family led by the Chief Rescue Team, Governor Lalong organized a stakeholders meeting bringing people from all the 3 Geo- political zones of the State to discuss the new guidelines on next Transition Management Committee and grass root mobilization for Plateau State. My Governor driving the change, progress and action processes thanked all the new decampees back to the ruling party urging them to work towards uniting Plateau as he is optimistic that their efforts will bring development and progress for the State.
He also reminded guests that presently, Plateau has the largest decampees in the country which is evident that the great people of Plateau are willing to key into the Unity and development of the State. He made a clear point that if other governors in other states are busy fighting over power with their National Assembly members, he will not in any way follow suit as he respects his own from his State.
He however stressed on the recent rumor spreading that he was afraid of conducting the local government elections hence, he is only taking his time to make sure that all conflicting electoral laws are reviewed and a comprehensive document brought out, and to be well understood by all citizens of Plateau before any election is conducted.
Read below some highlights from the new guidelines that must be adhered to on the Transition Management Committee that will be appointed soon before the elections which will involve ALL stakeholders to make the process transparent, fair representation giving the minority tribes a sense of belonging into government activities, inclusion of women in decision making etc.
1. All nominations must be from the grassroots as Stakeholders are to go and meet within a week and bring out a list of nominess
2. Each ward must be represented by a councillor
3. There must be at least 3 women from each list coming out from all the local governments but, more women can be included if the Council think women can be given more responsibilities.
4. All, nominees except the Chairman and Secretary will be on part basics with an allowance
5. The process must be fair and accepted by all tribes having in mind the issue of rotation and zoning which is paramount.
6. Chairman and Secretary must be resident in their respective LGA's while Councillors must be based in their wards
7. Councillors will only operate on part time basis and will attend meetings once in a week at the local government which is a way to keep them closer to their people at the grassroots, hear their concerns, and to be able to have a quick response mechanism to the people.
8. There will only be Councillors now and not Supervisory Councillors as in the past, as Directors will continue to head their respective departments according to due process
9. There shall be no award of new contracts as government is working tirelessly to pay old contractors hence the need to work on generating revenue is key
10. Government will work closely and make sure all these are met to be able to have a functional transition.
11. That all nominees seeking for the positions of Chairman and Secretary must be graduates.
12. That all successful nominees are not eligible to stand in the next local government elections.
As a governor who believes in reconciliation, peace, transparency and justice for all its citizens, he further urged all stakeholders to work together and submit the list of the new Council members on or before 18th of July.
The Meeting was well applauded and all stakeholders admitted and accepted the guide lines.
My Governor is Bae. Plateau State is bigger than an individual and this processes have made that statement true.
May you Succeed my Rescue Governor
Majority of Plateau people got your back.
Forward ever. backward never.
Lalong ikon Allah.
